 Standard Fee: 17 pounds
Mens Jogging network : 12 pounds

"MHFS" is known as Men's health forum Scotland, a registered charity. The event first started in 2006, meaning this year will be the six year running. Their aim was and is to promote and raise awareness on men's gaining a healthy lifestyle in leading an active lifestyle. They wanted all men to get together to achieve their goals, allowing participants of all ages and health to take part. This event has been great success as it had raised around 400,000 pounds for local, national and international charities.

This event  falls on a special day to many men out their, Fathers day, this is a great day for the race to be held as it makes the event stand out and makes the day even more memorable  to participant fathers. This event is promoted to men who have never entered a 10k or have not partook in any physical activity for a while, also focusing on running groups, this idea helps promote physical activity to those who are less likely to get fit on the own accord.

As many participants have not done any physical activity previous to training for the race, the race can be completed by walking, jogging, running or all three. Every participant goes home with a t shirt, mementos and a goody bag; also there are prizes to be won by the more competitive participants. If you feel like you can’t do this race by your self, you can register as a team; this is great if you lack motivation as you have your other team’s mates to push you along.

This is a great opportunity for men to raise money for charities and also is very beneficial to them self as it’s a great way to lead a healthy and active lifestyle!

Shine

Shine Glasgow 2011
Full marathon
Half Marathon
Saterday 10th September 2011
Metting point: Secc at 19.30
Males/females

When I came across this event that is taken place in Glasgow i was extremely excited, as it has one aspect which is very different than other marathons, it is in the DARK! The event is organized by cancer research UK, allowing you to pick a chosen cancer which you would like to support when entering the race.
Shine Glasgow is a new event this year is only the second year running, the vent is taken place in three places Manchester, London and Glasgow. As the event is at night time, lights are needed, lights is a major thing for the event as to them it is a symbol of hope.

This event has many opportunities for everyone to take part or even help out by making donations and support. The event allows you to mix business with pleasure as work colleagues have an opportunity to join in on this unique event. This can be done by entering as a team, providing drinks and food along the way for walkers. This idea can make a big difference to the event and even make a difference in the work place as you are working together in a team.

AS the race is a marathon the distance covered is 26 miles, this is a long time training is needed, even if it’s just walking for half an hour per day.  The event has an entry fee  of  £30, this money will go towards hosting the event, meaning  that all sponsorships money goes towards you chosen cancer.

At the same time of the Full marathon, the half marathon will take place, entry fee the exact same. The half marathons are there so families and other entry’s who are not able to take part in a full marathon as it is walking only race and half the distance.

Shine has a number of partners that support this event such as network rail, who will be encouraging their staff members to take part. Also Aqua Pura supports this event by providing hydration stations for both the half marathon and the full marathon.

Proud to be Scottish

Bank Of Scotland
 Great Scottish Run
4th September 2011
George Square
Glasgow

There is a choice in this race either do a 10k or half a marathon, what ever you can handle ( maybe next year ill think about the half marathon) There is a entry fee for both races half a marathon comes in at  25 pounds and the 10k only at 20 pounds! If this puts you off you get freebies when you enter! I always love it when I get souvenirs to remind  me what I have done and you get exactly that in this race. Every entry will receive a T-shirt, a medal for taken part, a certificate with the time and finishing position. The question that came to my mind  was how are they able to keep track of all those racers, well every participate is given a chip reader that is attached to your shoe, this will then keep a record, if you forget about it, there will be no certificate. What makes this event even more special is that you can purchase an ending photograph to cherish that moment of accomplishment.

In 2010 there was a whooping 23,836 participants  male and female , and this year they are wanting more participants to enter, so you can be the one who makes this number increase !

Last years event went  down a treat here is some  evidence to prove this :

"Thanks to all the organisers and supporters...what a fantastic day...the atmosphere was electric! .I'm all set for doing it next year" - Rachel J

"A fantastic day. Was told I wouldn't regret entering it and that was right! Great day, great crowd and atmosphere." - Scott R
Women celebrate crossing the finish line

Thousands take the streets of Glasgow
This person must have been roasting!

This race accommodates all levels of ability, from walker to power walker to people in wheel chairs or runners. The course is set up to enable every one to take part. The race is competitive to those who want it to be, so walkers are ask to co operate with some rules such as  keeping to the sides so runner can easily pass by and not be stopped in their tracks .

I love the fact that you can use your  hobby to help others, even when you have finished the race tired and sore you can just think of who you have helped, charities are dependant on money coming  in so that they can help other without our help some charities would not exist! The race has a number of charities that you can raise money for :

Canine Partners
cash for kids at radio Clyde
Break through breast cancer
Action against hunger....

Last year an excess of 1.5million was raised  for charities and good causes across the UK, this just goes to show that These races help so many out there.
